Elena Martinez, a 22-year-old senior at Emerson Valley University, was reported missing on Sunday evening by her roommate, Scarlett Lederman. According to Miss Lederman, Miss Martinez was supposed to go on a date on the night of Valentine’s Day. Miss Lederman was slightly concerned when she didn’t hear from her roommate for the rest of the night, and her worry increased exponentially the following morning.
“Me and Scarlett always text each other that we’re safe, even if we’re spending the night with someone,” Miss Lederman said during a phone interview with the Gazette. “I thought that maybe she was having such a good time, she forgot, but there’s no way she wouldn’t have texted in the morning, especially if she wasn’t planning on coming home for a while.”
After making the report to the Emerson Valley Sheriff’s Department, Miss Lederman was given the brush-off and told that a college girl not texting her roommate while with a guy isn’t a police matter. They were also suspicious about the fact that Miss Lederman couldn’t provide them with any details about the man Miss Martinez was supposedly with.
“She didn’t know the guy’s name,” Miss Lederman explained. “Scarlett’s kinda crazy and a bit of a free spirit. She’s really into karma and destiny and stuff like that. So when this guy asked her out on Valentine’s Day, she thought if fate wanted them to be together, they’d end up together. They just planned on meeting at Roscoe Point that night. I know it sounds irresponsible, but if anything seemed off she would’ve left, or at least contacted me in some way. I’ve been calling and texting her over and over, but she won’t answer. I know something bad’s happened to her, but no one will help me!”
Although she isn’t currently considered a missing person by the authorities, if you know anything of Elena Martinez’s movements on the night of February 14th or have any way of contacting her, please let us know at emersonvalleygazette@gmail.com so we can let her friends and family know. Thank you.
