Hunt for Missing Suspect Gets a New Twist

Ever since the Emerson Valley Sheriff’s Department discovered DNA underneath the fingernails of murder victim Sarah Donovan, they’d spent many hours painstakingly searching through their databases for a match. Earlier this morning, Sheriff Victor Grayson made a shocking announcement: the original sample from Mrs. Donovan’s husband Charles Donovan had been tampered with by an undisclosed lab technician.

“Unfortunately, greed can infect all sorts of people,” Sheriff Grayson said. “It has come to light that one of the techs at the lab where Mr. Donovan’s DNA was processed took a payoff to swap out the sample with one from an unknown donor. After locating an unprocessed vial of blood from Mr. Donovan’s heart surgery two years ago, we very quickly established a match with the DNA found under Mrs. Donovan’s fingernails.”

This bombshell announcement has ramped up the manhunt for Mr. Donovan. Although he was initially cleared as a suspect in his wife’s murder, there has been much speculation about his involvement ever since his disappearance in July. He was last seen leaving the home he used to share with Mrs. Donovan until they split in 2023.

“The suspect can run, but he can’t hide forever,” Sheriff Grayson vowed. “Sooner or later, the truth catches up to everyone.”

UPDATE 9/22/2025: Sheriff Grayson has just named the employee responsible for swapping out Charles Donovan’s blood sample as Jeremy Witt of Ibex Labs in Carson Hills, VA. An investigation has been opened into the matter.

UPDATE 9/24/2025: The body of Jeremy Witt was found this morning on the “F” trail in Blackwood Forest by Park Ranger Leslie Bowen. She discovered Mr. Witt slumped against a tree with a pistol in his hand. There was a gunshot wound on the side of his head and one bullet casing on the ground nearby. Sheriff Grayson released a statement announcing the coroner has declared Mr. Witt’s death a suicide, and assured the public that Mr. Witt’s death will not halt the investigation into the impropriety at Ibex Labs.
