Dear Libby,
I was so excited about the Meet & Greet that was supposed to happen last Saturday at Cassie’s Corner. My boyfriend bought me your new book so I could get it signed. Then when I got to the bookstore, I found out it had been cancelled! You can’t imagine how disappointed I was. I’d been looking forward to it for weeks. What happened? I hope you didn’t get sick or hurt or something. That would be the worst news ever!
–A Devastated Dear Libby Reader
Dear “A Devastated Dear Libby Reader,”
First of all, thank you so much for your concern and support. It means the world to me to have people like you in my corner. Unfortunately, the only corner Cassie’s in is her own. My Meet & Greet at Cassie’s Corner didn’t happen because she decided at the last minute that I don’t fit the bill to be featured as an author.
The more snobbish among the literary community feel that since I write a newspaper column, a book collecting the articles from my column doesn’t count as true authorship. They don’t care that I pour my heart and soul into every single thing I write. I can’t tell you how crushed I was not to be able to meet my readers face-to-face to sign their copies of my new book, Dear Libby: A Collection of Everyday Advice for Everyday People.
While I had no control over my Meet & Greet being cancelled, I still feel like it’s my responsibility to make it up to everyone. So I’d like to officially announce that I’ll be holding my own event at Raven Hall next Sunday. It’s more than a Meet & Greet—I’ll be doing select readings from my book and holding a Q & A session. Tickets are only $35 each, and the proceeds will go towards the Emerson Valley Feline Society charity. I hope to see you there!
–Lovingly, Libby
