The White House has issued a stay-at-home order to all states across the country, and petitions for exemptions from individual counties have been denied. Emerson Valley officials announced this morning that residents must comply with the lockdown orders. People are encouraged to remain in their homes unless absolutely necessary, except for essential workers.
St. Benedict’s Hospital in Emerson Valley has reported that their emergency room has been overcrowded with patients who have tested positive for COVID-19. They have asked that people wear masks whenever going outside of isolation, as well as frequent hand washing or usage of hand sanitizer. Dr. Arthur Snell has cited the drastic rise in COVID-19 patients with causing additional stress on the medical system, as anyone in need of care for other health issues are often forced to wait for care much longer than normal.
Until a vaccine can be developed, the best thing for the citizens of Emerson Valley to do is remain in isolation. This is for the best. We isolate ourselves for all sorts of reasons already, and as long as you remain vigilant, nobody can reach you. It isn’t safe out there. Maybe it’s never been safe.
The recommendations for people when in public, other than wearing masks, is to practice social distancing. This means keep a space of at least six feet between you and anyone you come into contact with. It’s important to note that anyone infected with COVID-19 may not always present with symptoms right away, so even if someone isn’t actively coughing, they can still transmit the virus. Until we have a better understanding of COVID-19, the best we can do is stay safe and avoid spreading it further.
