There was a horrific accident on Long Branch Road between the hours of 2 AM and 3 AM Thursday morning when two vehicles collided at high speeds, killing both drivers. Isaac Jordan, 27, and Gertrude Wagner, 79, were the only people involved in the accident.
Sheriff Oliver Price did not elaborate on who was at fault for the collision, but he did say that based on their estimates, both drivers had to have been going at least 20 MPH over the 65 MPH speed limit along that stretch of road. According to the accident reports, their cars hit one another at such a high speed, it sent pieces of their vehicles as far as the eaves of the nearby Blackwood Forest.
A memorial to the victims has already been laid beside the road at the site of their accident. It was dedicated to their memory, but also as a warning to those driving along Long Branch Road to be safe and not go over the speed limit. Our condolences go out to the families of Mr. Jordan and Mrs. Wagner.
